How to Join

Thank you for navigating to this page, which means you are probably interested in joining our club and like our members, you probably enjoy or want to get more from your koi keeping hobby.

We pride ourselves on being a friendly club and we all have one thing in common – we love koi keeping. That’s also the only thing you need if you want to be a member. We are a diverse bunch, from beginners through to seasoned koi keepers with 30 years’ experience. Some members are building their first pond, some have small ponds and others have large ponds. Between us we boast a wealth of knowledge and an advice, and a support network which benefits all our members.

We built our ethos into the club’s name, by calling the club “Kangei”. It’s the Japanese word for welcome, to reflect our friendly approach and we pay tribute to where koi originated from by using the Japanese word.

If you are a beginner or building or refurbishing a new pond, being part of the club will give you opportunities to learn about how others have built and stocked their ponds, helping you to make more informed decisions. Speaking to a club member face to face can be a great help when there is something you are unsure about or simply want to learn more about. We have a broad knowledge of our local patch which is Herts, Beds and Bucks, and share our experiences to help members get the best value from their hobby money.

We put on a range of events each year, such as:

* Talks from specialists on subjects like filtration, koi appreciation, koi health and welfare, water quality, treating sick fish, koi development.

* Events like koi farm and dealer tours and visits to koi shows

* Visiting members’ ponds

These are always well attended, and often cited as the highlights of the year by members. Every January we hold our “annual general meeting”. This is where we reflect on the past year and discuss and agree what we want to do in the year ahead. It gives all our members a say in what we do as a club and it’s fun thinking back to our most enjoyable moments.

The club meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month (see here for location). It’s easy to join and we would like to hear from you. For anything to do with the club, including membership, please email us at: info@kangeikoiclub.com

I look forward to welcoming you to Kangei Koi Club.
