June 2015 - Club night with a visit to Adam and Amanda's Ponds

On a very warm and barmy evening on 10 June the club members, a couple of new members and some guests joined us at Adam and Amanda Byer's for a great evening of koi, charity auction and BBQ. It is really good to see the club attracting new members in 2015. Nights like these are great to get out and about to have a get together with friends, a bit of fresh air and sunshine to boot.

A huge thanks to Adam for donating the four koi for the auction for Cancer Research charity. This proved to be a fantastic success with the excellent tosai on offer and also the banter during the bidding process was very amusing with parts recorded by Kevin Ellis for his next koi nerding videos. Congratulations to all the winners

  • Lou for winning the three step kohaku (middle pointing up) and the lovely tancho (bottom)
  • Mark H (me) for winning the large kohaku (it's the big one!) and the final smallest kohaku (top right pointing down)

It was very unfortunate that Sarah & Andy could not join us for the evening. Our thoughts are you (and Sarah for looking after you) whilst you are on the long term mend. The relatively safe world of koi keeping is maybe a better bet than downhill mountain biking!

As we discussed on the night, we definitely think this night with the auction would be a great addition to the annual club diary (thanks again to Adam & Amanda) and another day to look forward to next year!

This was a great evening and a huge thanks to Adam and Amanda for hosting. Please see some of the photos from the night below (thanks for the photos Lou).

We would like to thank all of those that invested in the club raffle and various items of new club merchandise, and we hope you are happy with your purchases and prizes. A separate post about our new logo and the merchandising will be following shortly.

Our next club night is at Alan and Anne Dean's pond on 08 July starting at 7pm. This is the first time they have opened up their garden to the club so not one to be missed. The address will be emailed out to club members in the week before the pond visit.

Happy koi keeping.
