Kangei Annual General Meeting 2014

Firstly, Happy New Year to everyone.
On Wednesday 08 January 2014, the Kangei club held its third AGM with 18 club members and two guests in attendance. Please find the summary below.

There are a couple of changes for 2014 with Mark Hobden and Craig Emery joining the committee. After three successful years, Steve Clark (vice chairman) and Nathan Hodges (treasurer) are stepping down although thankfully Steve will retain his Fund Raising role. A huge thankyou for all you have done for the club in the past three years.

The 2014 committee is:

  • Chair - Adam Byer
  • Vice Chair - Mark Hobden
  • Secretary - Tim Morphy
  • Membership Secretary - Bob Grinyer
  • Treasurer - Bob Grinyer
  • PRO & Website - Mark Hobden
  • Fund Raiser - Steve Clarke

Club Financial Report
The club has had another good year financially with Steve Clarke's fund raising as the main success factor. His efforts with the monthly raffles, drinks and confectionary has covered the monthly room hire and guest speakers. Another important item to note is the continued growth (20%) in club membership during 2013. As a result the club is solvent and the draft balance sheet for year end 2013 indicates net assets of 1.4k GBP.

2014 Calendar
Once the above AGM formalities were dealt with, the night focused onto what the members want to see from the club in 2014. In turn, each member was given the chance to provide their feedback on
  • What they thought worked,
  • What didn't,
  • What they wanted to see more of in 2014.

Below is a list of events (in popularity order) that members expressed an interest in.
  1. Pond visits
  2. Guest speakers
  3. Garden show
  4. Grow and show
  5. Filtration methods / Pond builds / Koi health
  6. Koi show visits
  7. Club exchange

Since the AGM the committee has already arranged
  • 12 February (our next club night) - Lee Burroughs "How to bring you koi out of the winter".
  • 09 April - Kevin Ellis, koi keeper and enthusiast.
  • 14 May - BKKS judge Bernie Wollands "The origins of Nishikigoi".

There was some good open discussion about pond visits on club nights and also potentially having some grouped at weekends. We will be getting in touch soon regards these pond visits and other events, including koi show visits, grow and show, garden show, club exchange visit etc.
Please keep an eye on our club website and subscribe for email updates because I will be updating the site regularly.
Lastly, thank you to everyone for your continued support of the club. This club is only as good as its members and this is one the main reasons why we are doing so well.

Next month (Wednesday 12 February 2014 at 19:45) we have Lee Burroughs providing us with a talk on "How to bring your koi out of the winter".
